You will study for a range of visual skills which will enable you to express yourself clearly and develop an understanding of the different cultures that surround us today. You will also carry out in-depth analysis of historical and cultural heritage, and gain an overview of the importance of conservation, restoration and the museum and gallery systems. Study skills will be included such as writing and presentation skills, communication skills and reflective learning. Work-based learning will also be encouraged.

Community Arts, West Cheshire College
This programme provides students with the appropriate knowledge, understanding and work related skills required to play active and proactive roles in the community arts industry. Level 1 modules have an internal focus providing an environment to observe practising professionals and develop collaborative individual methods of working. Initially your studies will involve you in a work based module and practical projects in the College’s real working environment for art & design, dance, drama and performance, music, media and multimedia, and involves internal “live” projects, work placements and individual skills development. The level 2 modules have anexternal focus where students will have chance to develop their knowledge and skills in real working environments and “live” external projects preparing you for work and employment.

Contemporary Photography Practice, Mid Cheshire College
The course philosophy promotes photography as a dynamic contemporary artistic practice that reflects a broad range of applications. Students experience an experimental and creative environment in which to produce their work. A wide spectrum of approaches is encouraged - through various forms of subject matter including documentary, conceptual, portraiture and studio-based work. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal style and are helped by a team dedicated to the highest standards of practice.
The underlying principle of the course is that all images are produced with thought as to their context and capacity to communicate to an audience.

Creative Arts for Employment*, Macclesfield College
The course aims to provide students with a broad understanding of contemporary creative arts within a vocational context. It puts a special emphasis on the acquisition of skills in contemporary fi ne art disciplines such as: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture/installation, photography, digital media and contextual studies. It is practice-based and work-based and aims to develop your creative potential as an individual and as a collaborator. You will develop vocational skills, an ability to refl ect upon your own learning and the means to contribute to the learning of others. These skills will be developed through the use of refl ective journals and self/peer assessment. You will be encouraged to work collaboratively and develop the appropriate interpersonal skills for the creative industries.

Fashion Design, Mid Cheshire College
The Fashion courses have a strong vocational element whilst maintaining high academic standards. Competition projects are assimilated into the course and work placements are encouraged. Visits to galleries and museums, both local and international, are organised. Students have final projects assessed through a Fashion Show, providing students with live projects and valuable vocational experience. In addition, students may also exhibit work at the ‘Clothes Show Live’. Students will be prepared for employment in the relevant industry through vocationally specific curricula, development of employment skills and professional development, whilst also having the opportunity to progress onto honours degree level.

Film Production and Management, South Cheshire College
The course is for students who have an exceptional interest in Film Production and Management and is designed to prepare students for self-employment or direct employment in junior roles in the moving image industry or for further academic progression onto the BA Hons Studies in Film. Students will engage in learning through the production and management of a feature film, develop skills and creativity through production workshops and develop knowledge and understanding of film narrative and film’s place in modern society. At level 2 students will manage and produce their own short films and expand their academic knowledge of film context.

You will be studying all aspects of graphic design and encouraged to understand the value of traditional subject disciplines such as typography, design, drawing and illustration, alongside the developing disciplines of animation, interactive and digital design. The programme aims to encourage and develop a range of skills, techniques and personal qualities such as resourcefulness, entrepreneurial, communication skills, creativity, design and software skills essential for successful performance in graphic design. It also aims to enable learners to make an immediate, creative, ethical and intelligent contribution to industry. In order to provide a focused route for a career in the media industry, with vocational pathways in either games development or multimedia design, the FD in iMedia is designed to be delivered in an innovative way, enabling those who have complex work or family commitments to study in the most flexible manner possible.
