Adventure Sports Management, Reaseheath College
Adventure Sports are becoming an increasingly important leisure activity, representing a significant part of the leisure and tourism industries. The adventure sports industry is rapidly expanding and requires qualified individuals who can operate safely and effectively in a range of outdoor sports. Coaching, leadership skills, sport science, water and land based activities, as well as business modules are studied on the course. This provides students with a sound platform in which to progress on to national governing body coaching schemes.

These 2 year full-time or 3-4 year part time qualifi cations are designedfor people who are, or would like to be, involved with coaching, sports development or fi tness. The courses develop a sound understanding of the major areas needed to work in these industries and includes skills required for effective communication, self-development and career progression. Learning takes place in the workplace and at college, with access to specialist coaching and laboratory facilities.

Community Evangelism, The Light Project/University of Chester
This two-year course fuses the experience of working in and with communities, in relation to the values and message of Christianity, with applying University level theology and biblical studies to practice. As a foundation degree, it is more work-based than traditional degree programmes, with a value placed on work experience as well as ‘academic ability’: it is a vocational course. Foundation degree students are placed in a local church for the whole of their course. This placement
provides the experience for much of the training and refl ection. Following successful completion of the degree, there is automatic entry into the third year at University of Chester, leading to an honours degree.

Early Years Practice, University of Chester, West Cheshire College
This is a new programme designed to respond to the Government initiative for Early Years Practitioners to be qualified to graduate level. The outcomes of the course are centred on the development of the knowledge, understanding and skills that will support high level professional practice in the Foundation Stage (0-5 years). Students must be over 18 and have a minimum of 2 years post-qualified experience in an Early Years setting. It can be studied part time for one afternoon & evening a week.

This foundation degree is designed to equip people working, or hoping to work, in the health and fitness sector with the skills and knowledge to advance their professional career. The programme combines academic learning with specific practical skills needed to work with different client groups in the areas of exercise, fitness & nutrition. This will include individuals with varying motivations and requirements from both special populations and performance sport. The programme will utilise work-based learning within appropriate health and fitness settings. There are opportunities to gain industry-standard qualifications and to benefit from an extensive network of partnership links with the local community.

Mission and Ministry, University of Chester
The aim of the course is primarily to prepare men and women for accredited and authorised ministry through high quality local training.
It approaches this task with particular emphasis on the importance of culture and context and upon the development of discipleship through both academic and practical learning. The course offers both three and four year part time programme. Each candidate must be sponsored and registered by one of the partners in the Southern North-West Training Partnership of various Christian churches.

Muslim Youth Work, University of Chester
The foundation degree in Muslim Youth Work offers a professionally endorsed training programme (subject to professional endorsement) that integrates the accepted values and criteria of youth work practice together with Muslim faith and practice. It is designed to give Muslims access to Higher Education, in an area of work that is greatly needed, and to equip Muslim youth workers to work in both Muslim communities and secular agencies in order to contribute to greater understanding amongst communities and religions, especially amongst young people. This is the first programme of its kind - professional youth work that integrates reflection on Muslim faith and practice. Successful completion of the two-year foundation degree gives students guaranteed progression to a further year’s study for an honours degree.

This qualification, which incorporates the TTA standards for Higher Level Teaching Assistants, is designed for people who are currently, or who would like to be, involved with supporting teaching and learning in a classroom environment in Primary, Secondary or Further Education. This degree is targeted at those currently working with or aiming to work with children aged 5-16 in a school environment, who would like to develop the knowledge, understanding and critical thinking skills necessary for high quality professional practice as a teaching assistant.
